Interesting historical building in the heart of Gothenburg

If you're a globe-trotter like me you miss a lot of things that make a hotel experience outstanding here, such as small and exclusive treats, impeccable customer service and extraordinary interiors. My stay at Clarion Post wasn't outstanding for a number of reasons but I do recognise a few things that make the hotel a go-to in Gothenburg. Here are the Pros and Cons: -Location is definitely a great pro. The hotel is just a few steps away from the main station as much as there are trams and buses available at your doorstep. -If you have never been to Sweden, pay attention to the breakfast. It's definitely another pro. Hotel's Breakfast in Scandinavia in general, are extremely generous and they normally serve an extensive variety of pastries and bread accompanied with hot dishes, fruits and veggies. I absolutely love it! At Clarion Post isn't different. Besides, the breakfast place is gorgeous, spacious and very hip. Probably one of my favourite views at the hotel. -The room amenities are decent. You get to sleep in a comfy bed, high standard bed linen, the bathroom comes with a bath and basic beauty kit. I wasn't a big fan of the room I was allocated to because it was located in the old part of the hotel. I feel like they could have made an effort to provide the best experience one could get once I was there, but they didn't. -I've asked for a baby bassinet cause we visited the hotel with our newborn, he was 4 months by then and to my surprise, the bassinet never made it to the room. I called once to remind them but I don't think room service acknowledged the need. In the end, the baby slept between the two of us in a queen bed which wasn't nice hence we have a king at home. (If you're not travelling on business and are picking a hotel for holidays and entertainment, make sure you choose one that offers a better room experience you'd have a home, especially if you're travelling with kids). -I must say the Clarion Post hotel restaurant was the highlight of our stay. Normally people don't make an effort to speak to you in English even though most of the population in Sweden is English speaker, but here, we've got an amazing waitress which really made the restaurant stand out from all other amenities. We had a 4-course meal paired with champagne and wine, it was all very simple and well-executed I remember really enjoying the dessert. Besides, the restaurant is situated in a prime location of the building, it just offers really great vibes and I absolutely recommend it even if you're not staying in the hotel. -

We picked this hotel because of the location and the rooftop pool. Location was excellent, but the rest of the experience wasn’t great. Rooms were clean, but the air conditioning control didn’t work in our room, and it was freezing for the whole stay. We let the hotel know several times, but it wasn’t fixed at any point. However, they did offer a late checkout as compensation. I realize that traveling during Covid is different, but the pool was also a disappointment. When we booked the hotel, the web site didn’t say anything about fees, but in July 2021 they changed the concept, and the pool costs more than 600 sek for a family of four. You also have to book a time slot. We decided to pay and book, but once we got there, we were told that only 6 people could use the pool at the same time, but I counted at least 16 people who were at the pool. I would not have paid had I known this. I also felt bad for the hotel employee who had to handle several disgruntled families who didn’t feel like they got what they paid for. Positive: excellent breakfast.

This is not a children friendly hotel. The staff is not helpful and without service-minded. We went to the hotel bar in the lobby with our baby. When we need to change my baby’s diaper I found that there is no changing stations in the wash rooms and I waited in the queue at the front desk with an impatient baby for more than 10 minutes as there is the only place you can find the staff to ask for help at the moment. What surprised me is that the lady in the front desk just told me that there is nothing she can do to solve this problem. I could understand for some restaurants they want to only serve the adults but this is a star hotel! How could it be possible there is no changing stations or nursing room for their guests??and even if they’re under renovating there should always be other solutions for parents. However, in the same location of Gothenburg central, I have encountered the similar situation but totally opposite experience in the other star hotel which is just cross the street. This hotel is not an ideal option if you’re parents want to chill in the bar with your infants.

First the negative: We were not offered either our gold member upgrades or any of the other benefits We were not informed that the do not clean rooms during stays if you don’t ask for it, so we had to ask for clean towels and toilet paper. Charging 250 SEK for using the pool for hotel guests and even expecting booking before you arrive is ridiculous Positive: The superior room was nice and big with a very comfortable bed. Great pillows. Good view of the park from our room compensates the noise from the tram outside. Very nice breakfast as always on choice hotels. Ice and big bath with both a Shower and a tub.

Feels like a soulless big chain, with inefficient, inhospitable service

They never pick up the phone at reception. We called down from the room multiple times over a few days and it rang forever, and no one picked up. Downstairs, there is a huge line just to speak to 1-2 reception staff, always. I guess this is why they do not pick up the phone. We had to wait for 20 minutes in line downstairs just to request for toothbrushes and toothpaste (which they charged us $7 for). When wanting to request late check-out for 1pm, again, had to wait in line, just to be told that they charge you $10 USD per hour after 11am. 11am checkout is weirdly early, and they do not offer complimentary late checkout if room is available.... which is a basic offer from any hotel we've ever stayed at. There is also a DIY check-in booth, where you can use an ipad and print your own key card: we did this to save time at the extremely long line when we arrived to check in. However, no one else was using it? And we still had to go in line for 30 min anyway, just to book a slot to use the rooftop pool (which you have to pay $45 for) and receive bathrobes... which are not provided in room. The redeeming factors for the very inhospitable service is that the breakfast buffet is amazing and the in-house restaurant is beautiful and the food is good. It is also clean, and the location is wonderful.
