I stayed here for two nights during a business trip. I arrived in Oslo quite late and because the buses from Lysaker station were running infrequently, I decided to walk. When you approach the hotel via the footpath/cyclepath from the north, there is no signage to the entrance. This can be especially confusing because the building is also shared with some businesses; I ended up at the side door, ringing the bell for reception for five minutes in the freezing cold with no answer. When I finally did make it to the correct entrance, I again waited five minutes for anyone to show up at reception to check me in. There was no bell to get anyone's attention and while there was a party going on in the lobby, the bartender was unable to provide any help beyond telling me someone would be around soon enough. It was past midnight and all I wanted to do was go to bed. The service was friendly enough when they were around. The room itself was extremely underwhelming. I specifically asked for a double bed, but it ended up being two single beds pushed together with two duvets. The duvets were definitely not standard size – it would be generous to say they were a metre wide and they barely covered me, so I can imagine any with above-average weight would struggle to stay warm overnight. The toiletries were limited to a bar of soap and one of those delightful shampoo/shower gel dispensers in the shower. The hair dryer was cheap and weak. There wasn't even a safe in the room so I had to carry around my passport with me for the whole trip. The hotel is described as a conference hotel, so I thought I would be able to do some work there. The wifi is completely unsecured, no password, no room number, nothing required. I didn't even feel comfortable connecting my phone to it let alone doing any sort of confidential work. Overall, most of the basics are included in this hotel, but for the price I expected much better quality (it's in the hotel name!). I know Norway is expensive but this felt like a private room in hostel for twice the cost. The only good parts of my stay were the location of the hotel, which is right on Oslo's fjord – it makes for stunning views, especially at sunrise; and the breakfast buffet, which was plentiful and really had something for everyone. I would definitely not stay here again.

Owner Response

Thank you for taking your time to write a review - we really appreciate it! You should be able to enter the hotel from both entrances (also at night), but I can see that you arrived around the time our night receptionists do a swipe walk in the corridors. We are changing the routines for this, so hopefully this won't happen again. I am a bit confused about the beds though, in your reservation it says that you've stayed in a room with a double bed. I even checked the room now, just to be sure that there is a double bed in this room. All our duvets are standard size, but in the Nordic countries it's more normal with single duvets so if you are used to double duvets they might feel a bit on the smaller side. We do have safes in the reception, free to use for all guests when they ask for it :) We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the breakfast, we know this is an important part of a hotel stay for many of our guests :) And the views are amazing, specially on a sunny morning or evening! I really hope you would change your mind about not staying in our hotel again, you are welcome back at any time! Kind regards, Kristine

I used the hotel when travelling by car, so the location is good for getting in late and out and away early. Parking underneath the hotel worked great. Hotel staff recommended the “pay in advance “ option that saved us a lot of money. Clean, efficient and somewhat boring room, but OK for the purpose. Great breakfast.

We came here for a weekend getaway. Just to be tourist in own city, but also just to get another place to lay our heads. So, the location and such was nice for us. The easy access to buses and such was a plus. However, when you come from the bus you see the Engineerium and Aker Solutions all over the building, but just a small logo on the left, which is the hotels own. What is good is that the entry of Aker Solutions and the hotel can be used by both. So, if you don't come from the main entry. You'll still get in. Because of the weekend... the cafe here was closed and since it was July the Engineerium was closed as well. Just like the many resturants and activities in the area. That isn't the fault of the hotel, but the high tide of summer guests and the local attractions are closed like the Airport tower and arts collective for that instance. Well, I digress... well, the reception was tidy and met us nicely. We came early to check-in. So we played the game hidden long in the lounge. As we played shufflebord while awaiting the time for the room to be ready. That was fine enough... we were the ones who was early. So, thats on us. We came to the room and it had 4 windows. Big view even from the second floor. We could see the majestic building across and see the ocean fom a far. That was nice. The rest of room left a lot to be gained. If you moved the TV to be cozy. The one sleeping closest to the TV had to do the limbo to get under it. Which is fine enough in the day-time, but when your sleepy and going to pee. Well... not so dandy. You can hit yourself on the TV. The mini-bar wasn't a mini-bar. The fridge wasn't even working properly. We did tell about it and they couldn't do anything about it. That was in the Friday evening when we found that out. We tried to have the card in the electric overnight and such. However, the fridge never got cold and our drinks was lukewarm our whole stay. The coffee in the front-desk was nice and was a nice treat during the stay. The coffee machine in the room was easy to understand and I enjoyed a cup myself. Just felt like I left out my wife, since there was no water-cooker for her tea. The breakfast on the Saturday was much better than the one on Sunday. I really don't know why... but the Saturday one was organized and seemed like had more personell. Since, there was more knicknaks and the food was less oily. The breakfast was the run-of-the-mill European continental breakfast with choices of eggs, cereals, bacon and such. They didn't stand out or did anything revolutionary. The breakfast was fine, but nothing to say... it was unique or anything. This is a sort of breakfast, you can get any hotel in Scandinavia or in Norway for that matter. The only difference from Saturday to Sunday was the oilness of the hot-food. It was more rushed and less "love" into it. Secondly, there was less options and not so much yogurts. That was very obvious and a downer on our second day of staying here. This hotel has a massive potential. They have a few adjustments and it would have been totally pleasent. Just like the shower raining over the toilet-bowl wasn't a nice addition to our stay. Since, we need that later and the heater don't take away the "rain" that quickly. Secondly, in a summer heat and with no air-con. Well, the room became a sauna. Even when the windows was open. The temprature you put down wasn't felt and I don't know if that system even worked for that matter. There was no reaction to the changes. You could technically put it down to -3 but nothing was felt. There was no sound and no proof of its existence. It just was on the toilet-door wall. We tried also to use the phone and dial the number to the reception on the Friday evening. When we found out that the mini-bar/fridge wasn't alive. Well, we just got the busy-tone and I had to go down personally. So, don't know the drill here, because I typed the numbers on the phone, but to no help. Also, the fancy-booklet is cool to show off the profile of the hotel chain. However, it didn't help the experience of a hotel guest. It shows the ideals and the wishes of company, which is fine enough. Nevertheless, the guest get's no help to figure out the room or the technicalities of the place. If there are nooks or cranies to consider. Which always nice for a guest... Well... this was a long one. In a brief remark: there is lots of potential, but not so much offered at this very moment.
