We booked a family room for two nights and arrived in the early hours of the morning. The lobby is quite spectacular with two oversized ceiling lamps with crystals descending from them. The decor is lavish. Our room was a fair size for a family room with bunk beds. The lighting in the room is very dull even in the morning the light from outside was poor as the window was small and in a corner of the room. The bathroom was small, again with poor down lighting for men to shave and women to do makeup. There is no handle for helping you climb in/out of bath to have a shower and the shower door is fixed so it can be quite precarious getting in and out with nothing for support. Beds are comfortable but pillows are awful. The type of large pillow that you lay down on and it envelopes your head. Breakfast is substantial, but I would suggest having thongs for picking up the sliced fruit instead of the oversized spoons. I observed one guest just giving up trying to lift up the fruit with the spoons and use his hands instead. Not very hygienic. Staff were pleasant and chatty and some were more helpful than others. We had misplaced our phone plug after we checked out and while they inquired about it with housekeeping, another staff member (who had just begun working with the hotel) offered to recheck our room after it was cleaned and then offered us a replacement plug from lost property box. I’m sorry I didn’t ask her her name. We did book a separate third night before departing Kristiansand. We had spent one night in Stavanger in between. This time they gave us two doubles. I felt that these rooms were more recently refurbished as the bathrooms especially were more modern than our previous room. It’s a good hotel and the location to the ferry is ideal. There are nice cafes beside it and the town has some nice restaurants.

Here Alie28 First of all, thank you very much for a detailed feedback. We are a 160 year old building where we are composed of 3 buildings with a unique glass roof above. This used to be one of the city's well-known banks and night spots located here. Not many years ago this was transformed into a modern hotel with a unique design. The designer emphasized this with design and atmosphere, which at that time was more popular than what we perceive in today's time perspective. This presents a lot of challenges when the design is dark when it comes to lighting. We are working on specific measures such as replacing all light bulbs with modern LED bulbs. This will increase the lighting considerably in the time ahead. When it comes to duvets and pillows in the hotel, we have just invested in brand new and replaced all bedding in all our 199 rooms. So just look forward to the next time you come back to us. Our amazing technical manager is going to check the solution around the bathtubs in our rooms to make it easy for our guests to get up and out of the bathtub in the future. Thank you so much for mentioning our talented staff and notorious breakfast. We are proud to have such a great team at the hotel that has a fantastic location in the city center. Poor value for money.

Booked a "de-lux" room. In all fairness the room was spacious and sort of nice. However there were no windows. Ventilation was inadequate and no daylight to wake me up in the morning. Lack of windows made room depressing and boring. I tried to let front desk know that I preferred room with window but were told none were available. Only a few rooms actually had external windows... and those were also sealed to prevent guests from opening them. Tried a red wine from mini bar. It was spoilt with big chunks of red stuff in it... "Cash free hotel" prevents me from using cash for my bar purchases - thus exposing my bar bill to my wife back home. This is also a practice prohibited by law in Norway but hotel is not bothered by following the law. Breakfast was crowded... but food was sort of ok. Nice choice of hot food. Too few coffee machines and long queues for a cup of coffee... Lobby bar closes at midnight on a Saturday evening. Slow and less than competent staff .. Way too expensive for this kind of hotel. Also they wanted to charge me more for parking than advertised on their webpage... only argumebting that "prices went up". Really not nice. Next time we try another hotel even though we are somewhat committed by membership in loyalty program. Just not good enough.

Hi dear Tedwalter, Thank you very much for your detailed feedback from your stay with us. It makes me very sad to read that you have not received the stay you had expected with us. I see you mention several different things that have caused you great dissatisfaction with us. Due to the facade decoration, everyone's exterior windows have been wrapped and prevented guests from looking out or opening the windows in rooms. We take this for granted as we have realized that the communication and information has not come out fast enough for guests who have booked with us. We strongly apologize for this, and we will hereby take this mistake further. I have now talked to our Houskeeping Manager at the hotel, and have taken steps to go over all the minibars in the hotel. This is to ensure that no one will experience the same as you. This is again something we apologize for, and see that there have been discrepancies in the routines for the exchange of bad wine. It is good to read that you were happy with the breakfast, as we are very proud of it. We are already looking at better solutions for coffee machines in the breakfast room. We have a great challenge when it comes to the number of guests compared to coffee machines we have today. But can promise you that the coffee is worth standing in line for. When it comes to our being a cash free hotel, this will indicate that we can refuse cash payment if the amount indicates a change. We are not allowed to exchange money. The reason why all Nordic Choice Hotels have been applied to this policy is due to the safety of all employees but also our guests. You can pay with cash, but then the cash payment must be exactly the sum of the item you buy. We cannot exchange or give back any money. We do not keep money in the company for security as mentioned earlier. If you want to come back to us next time, I would like to offer you a compensation for a free upgrade with us.
