Hannu's Top Travel Tips

We asked Hannu to pick his favourite LGBTQ+ spots in Helsinki.

"In Helsinki, you'll find many different types of bars and nightclubs catering to all aspects of the LGBTQ+ community, making it difficult to rank. But here are some places I recommend," says Hannu.

1. Room Blvd

Address: Bulevardi 26

"A slightly exclusive and excellent spot for good food and great drinks. They also have a large selection of wine and champagne," says Hannu.

According to MyHelsinki, Room Blvd doesn't have a dance floor, but it's the perfect place for a romantic date or a relaxed hangout with friends. In the summer, its outdoor seating area really springs to life.

2. Street Pride Bar

Address: Malminrinne 1

"Street Pride is a new bar in the Kamppi district. It's very welcoming and queer friendly," says Hannu.

At Street Pride Bar, regular events such as DJ sets, live music, bingo, and drag shows take place.

3. Hercules

Address: Keskuskatu 8

"This is a traditional but newly reopened gay nightclub, located in the heart of Helsinki," explains Hannu.

Hercules, a recently reopened giant, had to close for a while due to a renovation at its previous location but has now opened in a new venue across the street from Helsinki's central railway station. Here, you can dance into the early hours.

4. DTM/Don't Tell Mama

"DTM was an iconic gay club, which is set to reopen in the Teurastamo district during 2023. It's going to be really good and will also focus on international performers."

The nightclub will be the largest for the queer community in Northern Europe, but it is open to everyone, regardless of orientation.

5. Helsinki Pride

"Pride week in Helsinki is fantastic. It takes place in the last week of June, right after midsummer, a perfect time of year to experience the city. The Pride parade always ends by the Helsinki seaside in Kaivopuisto. Pride in Helsinki is free," says Hannu.
