In many parts of the world, there is a lack of clean water. That is not a problem in the Nordic countries, but there is still great environmental incentives to put water consumption on the agenda.
Why save water?
Transportation, heating and cleaning demands a lot of energy and use of chemicals. By using less water, we also use less energy and chemicals. Reduced water consumption means substantial environmental gains.
Since 2008, our efforts have resulted in a 19 % cut in water consumption per guest night. That amounts to the annual consumption by 4,200 people.
What the hotels do
- Almost every hotel has installed low-flow showerheads.
- Hotels are in the process of installing low-flow jets in sinks and toilets with two flushing alternatives.
- In addition, each hotel is identifying individual measures to reduce consumption even further.
- Each hotel reports its level of water consumption to the Energy Management System (EOS) on a weekly basis.
