We want to be The Good Neighbour

We want to be responsible actors and good neighbours. With almost 200 hotels and more than 13,000 employees, we have the opportunity to influence the conditions around us. It is part of the culture at Nordic Choice Hotels.

Everybody can do something. Nordic Choice Hotels is the leader in the local social responsibility sphere.

Big and small projects throughout the Nordics

In 2016, Nordic Choice Hotels launched an internal WeCare fund, where the hotels can seek support for local projects. You can read more about some of the winners below. Over the years, several hotels have received funding from the Fund for various activities and projects that contribute in one way or another to local communities. Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something, and for us it is a part of our culture to act as responsible actors.

Dedicated employees

With so many committed employees and hotels, we have the opportunity to influence the conditions around us. This creates value for the local community, but also pride and even greater participation and interest among employees, as well as hotel guests. Nordic Choice Hotels has organized several activities and partnerships over the years; below you can see examples of local activities we work with.

Bumblebee hotels and bee hives

Hotels for some of the most important guests on the planet!

Around 70% of all cultivated crops grown are pollinated by bees. The also contribute to a sustainable ecosystem and natural biodiversity. Declining numbers of bees and bumblebees can, and will, have major consequences for our food supply unless we do something to counter this! Here are just a few examples of what Nordic Choice Hotels is doing to help

  • In spring 2013, a staggering 150,000 bees moved into hives on the roof of the Clarion Hotel Arlanda Airport.
  • In 2016, the Quality Hotel Klubben collaborated with Tønsberg Næringsliv to start a bumblebee hotel in the Ilene nature reserve in the Norwegian city of Tønsberg.
  • The Quality Hotel 33 is the first hotel in Oslo with bee hives on its rooftop! Keep up to date with what's going on in the hives and all the latest bzzzzzzs by following their Instagram and Snapchat accounts.

Entertainment and joy for the elderly

Activities in which the older generation will be at the center

Together with the foundation "Lifestyle for the elderly", Quality Airport Hotel Stavanger offers accommodation every year in the town's nursing home to a party where the elderly get to be at the center for one night. At the party, 150 residents, accompanied by companions, come and hang out, enjoy music, good food and nice company. The hotel provides the venue, the music and the food.

In Malmö at Clarion Hotel & Congress Malmö Live you participate in an event called "Cycling without age". Every summer, older people get the chance to do fun things. The hotel takes them out on Christiania bike rides, shows them the city or takes them to an outdoor concert organized annually by the city of Malmo. Of course, the hotel also has a coffee break.

Women's Shelter

Extra support for vulnerable women in Norrköping

Comfort Hotel Norrköping has a close collaboration with the women's shelter in Norrköping. The hotel hosts Christmas parties for those connected to the organization every year and have them provide activities such as lectures in the hotel's facilities. The hotel works as an extra line of support for the women's shelter and if their accomodation is full, they can reach out to the hotel director, who will book rooms free of charge for women who need it. The hotel has collected Christmas gifts for the women's shelter during our yearly activity Lonely Christmas Tree looking for presents.

Lonely Christmas Tree looking for presents

In December every year all of our hotels conduct a fundraiser called Lonely Christmas Tree looking for presents. The purpose is to spread the Christmas Spirit and give vulnerable children a better Christmas.

All hotels within Nordic Choice Hotels collaborate with local organizations which they choose themselves. All Christmas presents that are put under the tree in the hotels go directly to selected organizations. Additionally, for each Christmas gift that is put under the tree, Nordic Choice Hotels donates 10 SEK to the UNICEF project Sweet Dreams, which fights trafficking.

Record amount of Christmas presents

In December 2017, more Christmas gifts were received than ever before! With an increase of 22% from the previous year, all of our hotels combined received a total of 63,800 Christmas gift and 3,062 gift cards.

Hope for Children

Employees started a fundraiser for families in need

The hotel chain Clarion Collection Hotel has collected money, gifts and clothes for families in need in the Baltics for many years. Clarion Collection has helped families in partnership with the organization Hope for Children, which is an organization that helps families in crisis. The hotel has, among other things, donated revenue from parking and breakfast, arranged swap meets and Christmas bake sales. After renovations the hotel has also sold inventory with the money going to families in Riga. The project was started after an initiative from employees who are originally from the Baltics.

Trash collection and cleaning

Action for a cleaner Göteborg and Linköping

All hotels in Gothenburg that are a part of Nordic Choice Hotels performed an initiative in collaboration with the city of Gothenburg in 2016. Trash bags, gloves and picking sticks were provided and large amounts of trash were collected from nature.

While Clarion Hotel had an event called the egg hunt, Clarion Collection Hotel Victoria cleaned the streets of Jönköping. The hotel has also recycled leftover bottles in the rooms and donated the money to a host family in Riga.
