The Quality Hotel Grand Royal in Narvik seems to be one of the few larger hotels in town as well as linked to a well-known chain. I guess that’s why my office booked it for me. I’ve been to Narvik several times but it’s about ten years ago now, not much has changed. The Quality Hotel Grand Royal is situated right on the high street only a stone throw (literally) away from one of the two malls and just up the hill from the town centre. When I say “mall” it’s due to the lack of a better word, it’s really small but has the odd cafe and a pizza place. I arrived late afternoon so I had the reception and receptionist all to myself, no waiting, no hassle. She was very efficient but a bit more enthusiasm would have been nice. Parking was an issue but with a bit of searching I could find a free spot on the street above and it turned out to be both convenient and cheap. The room was fair sized and had all one could expect, minibar, big flat screen TV, free Wi-Fi and a very comfortable bed. Down side was the view of an industrial complex and the fact that whomever was in there had unobstructed line of sight into my room. So close the curtains before getting in the shower. Breakfast was good, all the things a grown boy needs but nothing that would set it apart from any other decent hotel. Hotel restaurant was located just right of the reception and had a good menu, but as always in Norway you need a thick wallet. Now Narvik isn’t the ideal place for evening walks in early March but if you do want to be in walking distance from “down town” this hotel is great. Will I stay there again, defiantly. Will sit at home wishing to be back at Grand Royal, no it’s not that kind of place. I would however recommend it to anyone who needs a decent hotel in Narvik.

We had been told not to expect much so were agreeably surprised to find a well run hotel in a central position in the town. The staff were friendly, the room adequate and clean and with a splendid view across the fjord to the mountains beyond. The buffet supper and breakfast were good - the hot food was hot and the buffet was mostly kept topped up. The rooftop bar was stunning though not good for watching the Northern Lights because of too much reflection in the windows. But it was a great place for a drink - and to eat, though we had already eaten downstairs. In a town with not a lot going for it tourism-wise this hotel stood out.

Narvik is not very interesting unless you're lucky enough to see the Northern Lights, which is possible from the balcony outside the top floor bar. But, a big but, it's not open every night. We had a clean, modern room, good buffet breakfast and a brilliant, helpful and friendly waitress, but there's no denying, Narvik, doesn't have much to offer, so maybe the bar should open each night.

Hello, We are really glad that you enjoyed our hotel but sorry that you didn't find our city that interesting. Linken Restaurant & Bar is closed on Sunday and Monday but our other restaurant Rallarn Pub & Kro is open every day from 11am to 1am. Hope that we can welcome you back sometime so we can take you on a tour in our beautiful city and show you some of the most interesting things to do in Narvik. Have a nice day!

Our room was so small you could just get into bed by side stepping. It was clean and as it was an overnight stay, so we managed. But It needs TLC!! The front desk staff were very friendly Nothing much to do in Narvik but one very small museum. The dinner was buffet style and the "hot" food was luke warm, as was the breakfast!! The bar at the top is very nice, but beware of prices, which are very high all over Norway and Sweden!!!! You can also stand out on the balcony with a hope you will see the "NORTHERN LIGHTS"!!

The hotel has 2 good restaurants, a coffee shop and bar. The hotel has a new section and an older section. The older section is in need of a bit of TLC. Having compared notes with friends who were staying in one of the new rooms, all the facilities are the same, just more modern. There is an excellent war museum a few hundred metres from the hotel.
