Valdres stretches across lush valleys with plenty of water and woods to imposing peaks in Jotunheimen in the north. Fagernes is in the middle of the region and is a perfect base for trips and experiences outdoors.
The boat M/B Bitihorn has travelled on Bygin lake for more than 100 years. The boat trip takes you through an imposing landscape where you will see 2,000 metre tall mountains. You can take the bus to Bitin from the hotel, travel with Bitihorn to Eidsbugarden and then come back to Fagernes by bus. A great trip for anyone who wants to hike in the mountains, and those looking for a more peaceful trip.
Just a short car journey from Fagernes, you can experience real farm life. At four working farms in beautiful surroundings, they live like in the olden days. Milking and cheese-making with traditional methods and the farms have calves, lamb, pigs, rabbits and a Shetland pony. As a visitor, you get to participate in everything – milking, cheese-making, feeding the animals, riding the pony, nature walks or dog-sledding. You can also stay the night in the hay-loft, and on some nights they light a bonfire. The farms serve traditional Norwegian food, coffee and juice. You can book a farm trip in the hotel reception.
In 2011, the Norwegian version of the TV programme The Farm was recorded in Valdres. The fjord boats "Veslekari" and "Ola" were refurbished as part of this. They still operate on the Aurdal fjord where they go to Landmark farm and where you can have a guided tour. The trip also offers beautiful scenery to enjoy along with your fellow travellers.
The Valdres museum is the largest open air museum in Norway and they work with preserving, documenting, researching and teaching the local cultural heritage. Valdres Folkemuseum is within walking distance from the hotel and the facilities are made up of 100 buildings. Here, we also have the country's oldest archive for folk music as well as an enormous photo archive.
A golf course like no other. Valdres Golf is in a beautiful location by Aurdalsvattnet, 12 km from Fagernes. The course was opened in 2003 and designed by Jeremy Turner. The 5,758 metre long course has a par of 72 and offers varied challenges. It consists of 18 tees and 9 greens. The club house has a café and a pro-shop where you can hire equipment.
