Wisby Hotel is somewhat of THE hotel in Visby and the promotion and price level suggest the same. It does however not deliver that standard and the hotel fails on unnecessary things. First of all the room. It was full of small damages and stains which have simply been left without mending. The facilities were left in the same standard, with scratches, stains and half hanging curtains. The spa was dirty and super uninteresting. After five minutes in the pool we split up to the gender separated saunas and they were both switched off, left luke warm. We never figured out how to get hold of robes or slippers. The worst to me was the bed that was so hard I had to sleep on pillows the second night and the duvet felt like an old summerhouse blanket. The service was basic but mostly absent, likely due to covid. We never felt very welcomed or pampered and for our next visit we will chose a different hotel.

Good location and service

OK rooms, indoor pool (spa was closed due to Covid-19), a restaurant and several bars. Walking distance to ”everything”. The only negative was the constant ques at the reception (under staffed?) and the breakfast set-up, where there were always a ”fight” to get a table and the warm food was ”always” empty. Defenitely under staffed and bad planning, as the shortage of tables was mostly due to the tables not having been cleared of dishes and the refill of bacon, eggs, sausages etc lasting only 10 minutes before empty again.

The hotel is in a key position and is generally well maintained except maybe for the rooms. Rooms could benefit of some renovation. We were initially placed in a room which was not very clean but got a new room (much bigger, cleaner and with a big window) after talking to the reception. The bed was still a bit tight for 2 people and not very comfortable (was shaking by any little movement). Breakfast is good and served at ground and first floor. At the first floor there is a garden allowing for good social distancing while eating.

This is a fab hotel at a great location in town, but it is average in the way that it is a standard hotel in a town filled with quirky and quaint small hotels. It is the same Clarion hotel-experience you get in Stockholm or Oslo or Gothenburg. It is like easting at McDonalds when visiting Paris. It is not bad, it just doesn't add to the experience of Visby.

Generally I like Clarion hotels network but this time experience was too negative. Very unfriendly and inflexible staff, dirty corridors (carpets), uncleaned tables, waste left in common areas, dirty room which we lived in, etc. To find an available staff is a problem, to get an extra bed is a problem, even wi-fi was not good enough. So the management for sure has to be trained (at least)...
