Stayed here during a weekend in February and I'm happy we did. Even during the off-season, this hotel delivered a great experience. The room was great; spacious and the location of the hotel is perfect. We stayed in a superior double (without the sea view) but it was still lovely. Great beds, two TVs for some reason and a big closet for your clothes. The toilet was big and although the interior is supposed to feel quaint, everything seems to be in top condition. The best part of the hotel (since we did not try the spa) is definitely the breakfast, it had everything a usual swede might expect! You could make your on waffles or have the already made pancakes with typical Swedish toppings. Staff where always nice the few times we interacted with them. As mentioned, the location is ideal, with the ferry just a few minutes away and if you - like we did, have your car with you, there are lots of places nearby where you can park your car almost for free during the weekend. Have in mind however that we where here during the off-season = less cars. All in all, a great experience and I can only recommend it!

I would have given this a 4 or 5-star rating because the first impression was great, but during my stay I ended up disappointed, so it’s only going to get an average rating this time. The hotel has a good location, easy to reach and within walking distance to most things of interest in Visby, it’s a beautiful building, our room was clean and the staff were friendly. More on the plus side, we got a nice view of the sea, internet worked perfectly and the bathroom products were nice. But it’s rather pricey for what you *actually* get. I was offered an upgrade for an extra cost, I upgraded, but upon seeing our new “superior” room I did wonder what the previous room would have been like. This new one was nothing extraordinary, in fact it was what would count as a regular/standard room in most other 4-star hotels I’ve visited. It wasn’t much larger, the beds were still small and very bouncy, the pillows were really not good for the neck and back and the lights were rather weak. The breakfast room was chaotic and if you don’t go very early in the morning you might have to wait a long time to find a table, because it gets so full. There’s no natural, intuitive flow in the placement of the food, plates, cutlery etc, so people just come from all sides without a calm, civilised queue. What really let me down was the spa experience. I booked this place hoping we could treat ourselves to that more than once during our stay. I didn’t imagine I’d have to book our spa entrance months in advance and I even checked with the hotel reception after booking my stay some time ago. I was told then that I could just pop down to the spa during my stay and book my entrance then. Wrong. The spa is small and gets fully booked before you even have a chance to think about it so if you show up one minute too late, you won’t be able to enjoy it. Christmas and New Year’s opening hours were not displayed on the website when I booked the hotel and information here in the corridor leading to the spa was not complete. I went down in the afternoon and was met by a gate that was shut and a sign saying that it’s fully booked on the evening of the 30th and all the way to 1 pm on the 31st. Opening hours were finally displayed and it turns out they close earlier during these festive days. The phone number listed on the website is to the hotel reception, who didn’t have access to the system and couldn’t help me book, the spa is a privately owned business. I was told to write an email and try to book that way. I did. I got a reply rather late in the evening (way past closing time) telling me that the 31st was now fully booked. So forget the sign that said 1 pm, no chance of getting any spa time on New Year’s eve either. I replied asking about the 1st, no answer in the evening and no answer when they opened for the day either. I went down again, the new sign at the entrance finally said the 31st was fully booked. Inside the spa I tried to book a slot for the 1st of January but was told that too was fully booked. Seriously? Put the information out there as soon as it’s booked, so we don’t bother coming in at all. Put the complete info on the site and tell people to book in advance. The only available day was the 2nd, and that’s when I had to check out of the hotel at 11 am and leave for the airport. The hotel allows you to check out later if the room isn’t booked, but that’s an extra cost of 100 kr per hour. It’s also silly to have such a small place in such a big hotel, with so many people staying there. It really felt like an exclusive club most of us weren’t welcome at. This may sound like a stupid issue, there are far bigger problems in the world than me not being able to use a spa, but when businesses advertise things and charge people for certain services, customers have the right to expect them to deliver. In the three and a half days I stayed there, I could only use the facilities once and that was not what I had hoped for. I even found another hotel nearby who welcomed customers to their spa *every* day, with generous opening hours and a very service minded attitude. So we treated ourselves to a visit there. In the end, I paid for a later checkout and finally got to visit our own spa. Although the pool was nice, I still feel disappointed it took so much trouble to get in, and I hope the spa improves their information and that hotel staff can give correct advice when customers book.

My husband and I stayed on the 1st-3rd SEP 2019.When we got to the room, a light bulb was left on the bedside table. After that, we figured out that the light does not shut off, if the bulb was attached. We left it as it is. My husband deliberately booked a hotel with air condition, as lots of south sweden hotel does not have air condition. However, the air condition does not worked. We told the front desk(Maia), and she said the aircon is centralised. We asked if the engineer can check the air condition, and she said the engineer does not work on Sunday, and we can open the windows. We went touring around the whole day after checking in on the 1st sep. When we were back at the hotel around 9pm,taking the elevator, and the elevator got jammed!! We were sucked in the elevator banging the door, shouting for help and pressing the alarm button. No one came. After about 5 minutes, the telecom in the elevator came on. Maia was on the line.Anyhow, we were sucked in there for another 20minutes, before the bartender came to our rescue. The 2 person working was Maia and the bartender Andrea's. I amclaustrophobic and almost went hysterical. The elevator was sucked in between 2 floors. Engineer wasn't around. I was screaming for Maia to call the fire department. Oxygen was low in the elevator. Maia said the fire department, said they can't help. It's too long a story.. Anyway, just warning you guys about the elevator. Oh.. The WiFi is hopeless. Signal is weak. Breakfast is good. We preordered extra pillows and kettle, and it was ready in the room. Think Twice.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. As you entered the elevator and were going up, a short power failure occurred in Visby which caused the elevator to stop between two floors. I understand your fear of getting caught in the elevator. Maia and Anderas worked as fast as they could to get you out as easily and smoothly as possible. I have taken your feedback and we will do our best to improve Wifi and central ventilation. Terese Werkelin Front Office Manager
