In no way a 4-star hotel, but served it's purpose

TL;DR: This hotel claims to be a 4-star property, but our experience is a 3 star at best, with the exception of the staff which were on the whole, excellent. 3 nights + parking for those nights at 175kr/night was just on 5000SEK, so this is not super cheap for what was glorified ex-student rooms that have been "refurbished" into a hotel. The girl on checkin was friendly and helpful, and moved us up to the 12th floor. The first challenge was parking the car in their impossibly tight garages (there are three disconnected garages to choose from, one of them being open-air). The first floor was extremely difficult to manoeuvre and almost full so we tried the second which had room, but the parks are tight and too small - and its difficult to imagine how two cars are actually meant to squeeze between the pillars. The room when we got to it was cramped, a view over the parking lot (I guess other rooms that face Göteborg city have nicer views) and honestly felt like a student room - which it actually was at one point. All the way to the cramped bathroom with a chip out of the enamel sink (that someone had painted white paint in to cover) to scuffs on the wall .. no, room 1223 was nothing to write home about. The hotel had removed the telephone from the room justifying this with a silly sign that they "have had communications problems and have ended their relationship with the phone" and that "we were welcome to call reception from our personal mobile phones". This is not really acceptable for a 4-star hotel - think about travellers that are visiting with cellular roaming packages/or data -only packages where they can't ring.. The beds were OK, one was far softer than the other and, like so many hotels in Sweden, kept coming apart in the middle. WiFi was acceptable, but unsecured (so do use a VPN). It also did have some packet loss, but was usable for streaming Netflíx. The TV in the room was a Philips LCD with accessible HDMI ports, a positive. Seeing I forgot my ethernet cable, I couldn't check if the network ports on the desk worked. We were given these "Nordic Choice" vouchers, one for each of our three nights which could be used for some but not all of the snacks in the lobby. For an example, wraps were OK, but chocolate bars not. Somewhat faulty logic IMO, and unlike the Scandic Friends vouchers one normally gets from Scandic, the 35kr vouchers are only valid for the dated day - i.e. one for each night of stay greatly reducing their usefulness. No-one said this to us, so when we checked out we tried to use them to buy two wraps and a water and were told they weren't valid. Luckily (the staff are the consistent good factor in this hotel) the friendly receptionist made an exception, but its' good to be aware of in the future. Like many other hotels, Quality Hotel Panorama are reducing their environmental impact by giving guests the option to skip cleaning for a day, and they would donate a small sum to charity. While the intent is good, many other hotels offer an incentive back to the guest.. but either way, we skipped the cleaning for all three nights so cannot comment on how well the rooms are cleaned. I only joined the breakfast for Saturday morning where it was crowded to capacity which always ruins it for me, but my partner was there for the other two nights and said while quieter, it was average with basic selection. One nice touch is the staff came around offering coffee refills, don't see that very often. Note, that this was only on the Saturday and probably with the aim of de-crowding the buffet area. Onto the positives, the hotel was situated very near to where I needed to be, and the parking, while cramped, was necessary in our case. The water in the taps was nice and cold. The staff, both in check-in/checkout were good. This didn't feel like a 4 star hotel to me, and I don't feel it was worth the nightly tariff, however as the title of this review states: It served it's purpose. And the staff are good, which goes a long way.

Thanks Phil, glad you had a good trip to Gbg and got the best start to the day with our yummy organic breakfast buffet! Our cozy rooms used to be housing for students at the prestigious Chalmers University which is closeby, you might have seen some of the art around the hotel with a nod to its history :-) Hope to welcome you back again soon!

The worst bed I had for a very long time. Sleeping in a hammock is more comfortable. The window can only be opened a tiny little bid, and the ventilation is very poor. Too noisy (road) to keep the window open anyway. There were silverfish, too. And they did not provide clean cups when doing the room. Otherwise, the people at the reception were nice. But that doesn't help with the fact that the hotel clearly needs a makeover.
