Funken Lodge

We stayed here during our visit to Longyearbyen - great hotel. Comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff. There was a good range of breakfast items, definitely something for everyone - and a view too. We had one evening meal there - awesome!

We've just left Funken Lodge after an incredible stay. It's truly a slice of paradise nestled in the Arctic wilderness. Despite the -25°C temperature, it felt like a warm, cozy home away from home, thanks to the luxurious accommodations. The staff's friendliness and warmth were unparalleled, always greeting us with smiles and eager assistance. The breathtaking views made us feel worlds away from reality, and the cuisine, particularly the comforting soups and bread, was exquisite. Already counting down the days until our next visit!

Very nice/pleasant personnel and service. They were all very helpful and always in a good mood. Nice areas in the lobby, reastaurant, bar etc. with a good atmosphere. Very nice rooms, nice bed, complementary coffe, slippers and a gown. Nice food, wide selection of dishes at breakfast with a nice view. Ordered experiences through the hotel, which worked very well wrt. pick-up, changes etc. A great hotel with charm, history and style.

My husband and I stayed three nights at Funken and wish we had stayed longer! We booked a junior suite which was ideal. Having a little sitting room to spread out our luggage and hang our winter gear was very helpful. The rooms are on the small size but the details are well chosen. Bedding is very comfortable and we liked being able to crack the window open for some fresh night air. The breakfast spread is fantastic. Everything from fresh breads, cold cuts, fruit, yogurt, made to order eggs, bacon, pastries, and even smoothies. The bar/lounge is the ideal place to sip a cocktail after a day of adventuring. One of the bartenders made one of the best whiskey sours I have ever had. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful for any request, from calling taxis to booking activities. A short 10 minute walk gets you to the center of the town and you have the best view.

We spent so long deciding which of the hotels in Lonyearbyen to stay in as they all looked fantastic and we are very happy that we chose the Funken Lodge. Transport to and from the airport was simple on the shuttle bus available. Staff were friendly, helpful and readily available. The room was very clean and comfortable, all basic amenities were provided and more. Plenty of comfortable seating to relax in within the hotel and because of the location, the views from all the windows were stunning. Breakfast was plentiful, something for everyone, it is worth noting that we found the restaurant booked up quickly, however, you can eat in the bar area with no prior booking, we had delicious burgers one evening! Despite our best efforts, we didn’t see any Northern lights or polar bears, but we didn’t care because there’s so much more to Longyearbyen than that and it’s a perfect excuse for another visit in the future.
