At Superland we have swimming school for children up to 10 years, with instructors from Norway's swimming association. We do our best to offer the right course level for your child in order to best meet his or her needs. So please make sure you tell us your child's swimming experience when registering.
Super Baby – for children aged 3 months – 2 years
Baby swim is a water activity where parents actively take part in the pool. It's a playful activity which places lots of focus on close contact between parents and their new family member. Parents are responsible for their children during baby swim, and the activity takes place under the child's terms. The instructor gives advice and guidance. The child learns to feel comfortable and at ease in and under the water.
Good tips for your first visit: Set aside plenty of time for the visit, and plan sleep and food carefully. A tired and hungry baby will not be happy whether in the water or on dry land. Babies must wear swimming nappies in the pool. Give your baby time to get used to the environment in the swimming pool. Body contact is the best way to feel comfortable and safe. Wrap your baby in a large towel as soon as you come out of the pool, and don't forget to wash the chlorine off properly. It's a good idea to moisturise your baby's skin after being in the water.
In theory you can start babies swimming just after birth, but we have set an age limit of eight weeks. We start the course three times a year so choose the one that suits you best. See you soon!
Super Toddler – for children aged 1 – 4 years
The goal of toddler swim is not to teach your child to swim by learning different strokes and techniques. Here many children learn to swim themselves. In other words, they move through and under the water using whichever technique and style suits them best.
Toddler swim is an activity that takes place on the child's terms. What's most important is that the child feels comfortable in the water. We play, dive, jump, swim and learn about being in the water, and above all have fun! The course is a continuation of baby swim which is for children aged up to 2 years, but it's not a requirement to have taken part in baby swim. Our focus is on singing, playing and practising, and parents gradually become less involved as your child creates a sense of harmony in the water.
Super Diver – for children aged 4 – 6 years
Super Diver is a course for children aged 4 – 6 years, but we often split the group into two smaller groups: those who enjoy being in the water and those who are less comfortable in the water. It's important that your child is in a group with children of the same level.
Super swimmer – for children aged 6 + years
This course is aimed at children who have taken one or more of our other classes and are able to float. If your child hasn't been to us before, then come along so we can together decide what level your child has reached. Super Swimmer classes take place in our 25-metre pool, so important that your child can float, or can just about swim unaided.
