Its always a pleasure to go and indulge some good time in Oslo ! But when are staying at THE THIEF, it becomes somthing else. This time for a 3 days week end, I had the pleasure to stay in THE OSLO SUITE. I remembred that a couple of years ago, before the Pandemic, I saw John Legend and his wife coming out of this mysterious door ... This time I was the lucky one to stay there. Views an spaces, everything here is just amazing. I could have stayed 24/7 inside this lavish appartment . But a good suprise following another one, I soon find myself into a wooden spiral staircase and pushing a wide door onto a TERRACE as wide as the suite itself. WAOW I had to have a good look all around me and down to the beautiful boats in the canal, to the sea before I enjoyed the lounge chairs : Unwind !! I had, as always, the best time at THE THIEF, people are so nice and taking so good care of you The warm welcome in just few words at the Spa, the always amazing buffet at the breakfast, the Pool, and there's ART everywhere, from the lobby to my suite... But what I will remember the most of my stay is definitely my suite THE OSLO. The type of wonderful surprise we all desserve once in a while, don't we ;-)) and last but not least the perfect host, Dominic, gives you great ideas about the city new places and shops around Oslo, Thanks again Man :-)

Outstanding is a good descriptive word for the stay we had at The Thief! On the occasion of our wedding in April, we booked our weddingnight at The Thief´'s best suite, and stayed until the afternoon after. We were warmly welcomed and led to a large, unique suite with its own roof terrace. We had a special and memorable experience. Since there was Corona restrictions that made us to have to postpone the wedding reception, my wife and I ate the food at the suite. They served us a 3 course dinner in the room, followed by the chef who came in and greeted us! The food was amazing! The decor, the bio fireplace, the lighting and the beautiful sea view made this an unforgettable experience! We were very well received by all the staff at the hotel. General Manager Dominic made sure we had everything we needed and helped provide extra flowers, chocolates and drinks of our choice. The hotel was service-minded in every way and happily lined up with that little extra at all times. Breakfast buffet was incredibly good and we were surprised with a separate confectionery plate for our table. Highly recommended! Thank you so much for an unforgettable stay, we will come back for sure!

"We treat guests as rock-stars and rock-stars as guests". Ridiculous.

One thing for sure: this hotel doesn't correspond to self-declared level. By far. They claim they are lifestyle and they are boutique and they will steal you from everyday life. They don't even mention they are 5-star, because obviously they think they are much above. We stayed there 2 times, 1 night each in August, 21. 2nd time our flight was delayed quite a bit and we reached the hotel at 21:15. First thing I heard at the reception that their restaurant is closed, their bar is closed and room service is closed too. About the first time I see that it isn't possible to eat anything after 9p.m. in a hotel of any level. Surely rock stars would have appreciated that. Then they don't have bell-boy service and a dedicated concierge desk. There is a luggage trolley stading near the entrance, which you are supposed to grab yourself. Both times I asked receptionists to assist with the luggage and they did assist without saying a word (in general I don't have a single negative word to say about personnel of this hotel at all, they are all friendly and are all trying. And obviously, it isn't them who decide how the hotel is supposed to function and how it positions itself), but it isn't a job of a receptionist to be helping guests with luggage in a supposedly 5-star hotel. It is Norway and the salaries are high? Right, but then maybe to blabber about hotel's sky-high level a little bit less? Then the rooms are ridiculously small. For this kind of money you will get more space even in Tokyo, where space is more precious than gold. And then it is one of the places, where they are trying to stun you with various technical gizmos. But as it always is in hotels built like this, designers whom they hire, they don't understand a simple thing: when multiple confused people staying in the rooms every day poke their fingers into buttons of these gizmos trying to figure out how it all works, all these gizmos stop functioning properly real quick. And futuristic vision of these designers sometimes doesn't correspond to practicality. For example, it is impossible to switch-off the lights in the bathroom - you can only dim them. But when you enter the bathroom in the night, there is a movement sensor and the lights blast full force into your face even if you had them dimmed previously. On top of that there is a floor to ceiling window in the bathroom, but there is no drape or shutter to block the light entering. Being so far North dark part of the nights is nearly non-existing in the summer. So, when you come at 5:00 a.m. for a short bathroom visit you get both, full force electric lights and bright day light through the window. Very good for helping you to sleep after you come back to bed. This is when The Thief really steals you. Many modern hotels have light signals for "do-not-disturb" or "please, clean my room" instead of traditional pieces of paper guests are supposed to hang outside their rooms. But normally there are some kind of visible signs (most often red and green lights) outside the door. So that a guest can check which is it that he/she applied. Here there is nothing outside the doors. Neither there is any clear indication inside the room on a panel dedicated to DND. I tried to press some buttons, but the thing was just blinking at me in return by some hopeless combination of red and blue lights. So, I will never know whether I managed to switch Do-Not-Disturb. Air-conditioning works just as it pleases. We stayed in Junior Suite both times (we were actually upgraded from the category we booked, thanks to reception stuff, but like I said above, I have no single negative word to say about people of the Thief - apart from the management obviously). So, we had 2 sets of A/C - in the living room and in the bedroom. One in the living room was programmed for 24C when we just entered the room (speaking our second stay), but the temperature kept going down all the time until it reached 20C and the ventilator blowing full speed. I tried to punch couple of buttons supposedly meant for regulation of ventilator speed - nothing happened. In the end I had to put a sweater on sitting in the living room working on a computer. In the living room it was the opposite - we are used to sleep in cool air and the blankets in the hotel are quite thick, so I put 19C on the respective panel before going to bed. 21C was the minimum the room got cooled down to by morning time. And, yes, of course, the door between living room and bedroom was closed all the time. Just not to give an impression that I don't know how A/C works. :) All in all, The Thief is definitely not a bad hotel. But it is seriously overpriced and self-overpraised. If it cost double less and the hotel didn't brag that much about their own top-notch level, then this review would have been much shorter, something like: "nice and clean 4-star place near the water. My recommendations".

Very nice design hotel located in the center of Oslo with an vast amout of nice restaurants nearby. The service at the hotel was really good. We had lunch at the rooftop, and the fish was magic. The rooms are very stylish and artsy. The breakfast was 10/10. I will return as often as I can.

I reviewed on trip adviser and was rated pretty good. However not my experience I arrived on Sunday 30th August and Was told that they had a great bar and rooftop bar however closed for Sunday and Monday both my nights. Not a great start which then just got worse as there is no water in the room after repeated asks still none. Then I was woken up at 3AM with like nightclub music spoke to reception and then after 20 minutes it stopped. Went to the gym in the morning and whoever took the pictures was a magician. Plus no water or towels it’s like they have a problem with water. Then finally after getting ready to leave had to press my clothes for that day having not anticipated they the iron leaked I asked reception could I have a iron ASAP as I only have 40 minutes before I had to leave they said would be up straight away didn’t happen and left after 50mins. Air con struggling and just the hotel a little tired. Spoke to my Oslo colleagues today and they were surprised as they said they had heard good things but that was prior to covid. On the positive side location is great and staff friendly but no way is this a 4 or 5 star hotel especially the money they want so a real shame for a great city.
