Do not stay here if you want a good nights sleep

If sleep is important to you, I wold not chose this hotel. This is among the absolute worst hotel experiences I have ever had. Although the service, cleaning and breakfast are all fine, I mainly stay in hotels to sleep. Repeated instances of fighting, screaming, attempts to kick in the door in one of the nearby hotel rooms were just some of the things that left my young son and I sleepless and uneasy. Less serious, but adding to the experience are the poorly insulated windows; even from our room on the 5th floor we were woken by noise and fighting from the street. I tried to contact the hotel to ask if they could offer any compensation after this very negative experience, but they have not heard back.

Great location for main train station. Staff extremely helpful. Booked a room with balcony which was on the 8th floor, we got a room that had a side street view and not the view onlooking the Opera House/Waterfront, but there was an additional balcony that guests could access which did have that view . Room was small, but bathroom was large with corner bath. No drawers, there was a wall coat rack with a few hangers, no tea/coffee facilities, it was adequate for 1 night, but wouldn't stay for a longer period because of the lack of space. Slept well and there was no noise from other guests on that floor. Would I book again? yes for an overnight stay.

The hotel reception was very welcoming, and cheerful. Checking in can also be done automatically via tablet, if reception is busy. Reception doubles as a bar, and light refreshments are also available 24/7 in the same area. We were given a generously-sized room in the top corner of the hotel: 801. It has an excellent private balcony with uninterrupted expansive views of the Oslo Opera House, the Munsch Museum, and the hills beyond. The balcony itself is larger than some hotel rooms we’ve stayed in whilst in Norway! The only downside to the balcony and the room is that immediately adjacent to the room (literally directly behind the bed head) is a smoking balcony. Luckily, we had plentiful snow and low temperatures, so only the truly addicted smokers ventured outside. But it would be an annoyance any other time of year, so you may want to ask for a room at the other end of the corridor if you don’t like cigarette smoke. Smokers opening and closing the smoker’s balcony door makes the wall vibrate. It’s a real shame that Norwegian smoking policy allows smoking outside premises: makes asking for balconies and opening windows frustrating for non-smokers. The room - and bathroom - was typically Scandinavian in terms of lighting (i.e. dim), but ventilation good thanks to opening windows, and the balcony door. No a/c, so if Oslo has an uncharacteristically hot summer, the room might get hot. In winter, there are two heaters to warm the room and the bathroom has user-controlled underfloor heating, which works very well. King-size bed was very comfortable, and bedding provided excellent. Bedside lighting was good, and powerpoints for each side allowed chargers to be plugged in conveniently. Storage for bags was excellent, but storage for anything taken out of the bags was surprisingly non-existent, making a lengthy stay rather awkward. Three hooks by the door entrance were not particularly useful, in that coat hangers on the outside couldn’t be used as it would prevent the bathroom door from opening. Bathroom was absolutely fine: good shower, good pressure, plenty of room. Lighting not great, though. No extras other than towels and soap. Breakfast was really good, with plenty of variety. The only thing missing was a coffee machine, but regular Norwegian brewed coffee was fine. Food was replenished regularly, and staff cleared away plates quickly. Others may have complained that the seating is limited, but we took our food into the adjacent foyer area and enjoyed the view across the park. Opening up the area (maybe just for Christmas) is an excellent option. In all, a perfect and very convenient place to stay, and only 3 minutes walk from the train station. It’s not far to most of the centre of town, either. Recommended.
