Great hotel, close to train station and city centre. A clean beautiful presented hotel, small room but this did not detract our stay, the down stairs lounge and free coffee/tea facilities and a bit of cake certainly welcoming. The staff inviting and friendly, responding to and engaging into banter that made you feel at home. The receptionist, Gesa, her banter made my day, really enjoyed staying. Great breakfast, my wife loving the selection. The Hop On Off bus stop is really close, the old fort and museum also walking distance. Going to Oslo, I strongly suggest checking out this hotel, I would definitely stay here again.

We spent 3 nights here whilst visiting Oslo for the first time. It afforded excellent value for money with a decent breakfast, unlimited tea and coffee, afternoon cake and a light evening meal. The room was on the small side yet clean and comfortable with probably the worse view ever...a discoloured fire escape but as it was winter, we kept the curtains closed throughout the whole stay 🥺. Bathroom suite looked recently refurbished with an excellent range of Ritual toiletries but an odd shower position and poor shower head made it nearly impossible to use. The hotel was in a quiet position , only 10 mins from the central train station and within easy walking distance of the shops and main bus stops. Overall we would recommend this as a base for exploring the city.

THE place to stay for an Oslo City Break.

I spent four days in Oslo and chose the Hotel Bastion because they offered breakfast and dinner, and the location was convenient. When I arrived, I was greeted promptly and pleasantly. My room, while small (which I expected because I read the description), was perfectly appointed and very comfortable. I was very surprised with the bathroom because the shower enclosure actually worked. I have stayed in many hotels with the same type of enclosure and always ended up with water everywhere. I really liked the heated bathroom floors, too. The bed was comfortable, and aside from an awkward placement of the tv (I ran into it quite a few times crawling into and out of bed), I was very happy with my room. I think the tv issue could be solved by raising the mounting of the tv a bit but it wasn't anything to ruin the comfort of the room. The breakfast hours were perfectly timed, allowing for early exploration or sleep-in opportunities. The selection was extensive from all manner of eggs, bacon, beans, and bread as the staple. Other choices included cheese, fish, meat, fruit, yogurt, and juice. There was plenty of food, no matter what time I wandered down for breakfast - hot items were always hot, cold items were always cold. Around 1500 a "snack" was provided, including cake and fresh fruit. Coffee and tea were available 24/7 and the coffee is really good. The reason I booked with Hotel Bastion was the offered "light dinner". The meal consisted of a main course, soup, a variety of salads (depending on the day - coleslaw, salad, vegetable), and bread. There were always gluten-free and vegetarian options and each item indicated possible allergens. All of the food was freshly prepared and was absolutely incredible. There was plenty of food, no matter what time you made it in for dinner (dinner ran from 1800 to 2100), and seconds (or even thirds) were not frowned upon. The hotel location was perfect for exploration of Oslo. About a 10 minute walk from Jerbanetorget tram stop/Oslo Central Station and close to several bus and tram stops. And, if you're coming in on the Stena Line Ferry, it's a quick walk. Basically, it's one of the best locations - quiet in the evening, and convenient for walking and transportation. I highly recommend Hotel Bastion. You would be hard-pressed to find a better deal. In a country that is notoriously expensive, a hotel that provides breakfast and dinner is quite a find.
