We wanted to stay in Oslo for one night after we had missed your flight. We wanted a nice place to truly experience something local instead of an airport hotel. We looked in trip advisor and booking.com and decided to give Amerikalinjen a try. Although they didn’t answer their reservation line , we booked online. As we approached the hotel we got lost trying to finding the hotel due to some construction happening there and the fact the hotel is placed on a tram line which google maps doesn’t guide you straight to it. We called the hotel again and gladly they explained that we can drive up to the hotel on the tram lines !! Parking was right at the back of the building and can be paid along with the room charges. Reception staff was very very friendly. Our experience completely transformed as soon as we were greeted. Please do ask about the history of the building it’s just a marvel ! They did such a great job restoring it and making every detail so immaculate. We booked three superior rooms . All well sized , super comfortable beds , lovely views and room was flooded with sunshine. The next morning we had breakfast downstairs which was included in our room rate. This was one of the best breakfasts we had in a European capital hotel ! Generous options , attentive service, and comfortable atmosphere for our kids to enjoy too. We loved this hotel , and hope to go there again !

My husband and I were made to feel so welcome at this hotel. The reception staff - Frieda and Caroline - could not have been more charming. Frieda even spoke Afrikaans to me (something I have never encountered anywhere in Scandinavia). They gave us a map to explore the surrounds and made a few suggestions of good places to visit. Then Melody, from the Phillippines, knocked on my door to present me with the most delicious, French dark chocolate, which was just SUCH a lovely touch. She too, was utterly charming! We were very happy with our room and the great shower, fluffy bathrobes and slippers - even though my husband was a tad sulky he got the pink ones and I got the blue ones!! Appreciated the free wifi and view from our room (212) overlooking the clock tower and tram lines. However, it's the staff that can make or break an establishment and the personnell here could not have been sweeter if they'd been dipped in icing sugar and lightly baked like wienerbrod! Great stay. Thanks guys!

I booked a room at this hotel for my boyfriends 30th birthday due to our interest in the type of interior the hotell uses, and the location. Wow, the hotel was great, and the location could not have been better. It was just on the other side of the road to Oslo S. We got a beautiful room in 5th floor with views over Oslo S, and the rest of the street, so wonderful. The room was very nicely decorated, and super cool. We got fruit, bottles of water, a birthday card and balloons from or personal "host", Luana. The staff was super friendly, and it was obvious that the hotell had this as a important part of their resomé. We ate at their restaurant Atlas Brasserie & Café, and as every where else at the hotell, the service was perfect. Our waiter, Ragnhild made our dinner super special, and even when the fire alarm went off we had a good time. The gym in the basement is also very cool. All those details! I never understood people that have a favorite hotel, until now... Now, this is my favorite hotel.

Let me just say it, this is the best hotel we have stayed at in Norway! Before I go on about the hotel I must comment on the bad review that was left a few days ago. Everything in that review is absolute nonsense. To give an example, smoking is NOT allowed and it says so on the hotels website when you book. If you book through a 3. party site like Expedia and they mess up and says smoking is allowed, then you have to bring that issue to them, not the hotel. So, onwards with the fantastic hotel! It’s located just across from the central railway station so arriving from the airport is easy. The building itself is the old head office of NAL - Norwegian America Line and the refurbishment has stayed tru to its heritage with lots of details from those days. The design is absolutely fabulous and we really enjoyed hanging around. The rooms are well appointed and has all the new tech you’ll need. Air conditioning is among some of the most quiet at any hotel we have stayed at. I little tip in regards to the temperature control is that reception can set it for you, and then you regulate it +- 3 degrees Celsius yourself. Breakfast is very good and has a vast variety of food items. Fried eggs, boiled egg, omelettes, cold cuts, fruit, berries, barista coffee, etc. All the staff we encountered were super nice and helpful. They will make your stay even more enjoyable. Do yourself a favor and stay at Amerikalinjen. Best hotel in town!

This is one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed. From being overpriced to the tiny rooms to the horrendous staff if I had a choice between sleeping in a tent in Oslo or here, I’d choose the tent. When we booked we were given the option of twin rooms and a smoking room which we selected so when my father smoked and was fined we were a little confused so called the front desk. He asked if there was anywhere in the hotel he could smoke and they said either pay the fine or leave. They apologised later and said we misunderstood them and to be fair and sent some fruit but clearly there was an error in communication on their side that runs very deep. They also have no twin beds at all in the hotel so we had to book another room at reception. The food is mediocre, the location isn’t the best and if you’re driving to Oslo the parking is at the back of the hotel if you can find it, the rooms were tiny, not at all what they were advertised as (200 square feet), they management is poor and inexperienced to deal with travellers. If you want peace, do not come here. When we checked out and flew home one of my first emails was from them stating that we’d stolen an umbrella and owed them $17... THE BILL FOR OUR STAY WAS $1700 WHY WOULD I NOT PAY FOR AN UMBRELLA!? Also it was 20-25 degrees Celsius during our time in Oslo... not exactly sweater weather. Having contested this and received another apology from the hotel that likes to accuse, I have asked for answers as to why they didn’t investigate first but surprisingly haven’t had a reply to that email...
