Friendly and professional staff, always greeting you with a smile. Best service in Stockholm! I love the fact that I can choose to drop cleaning of my room in exchange for a donation to a charity. Way to go, Clarion! Ideally located a 5-minute walk from Arlanda Express if you arrive Stockholm by plane. Food and bar also recommended!

Lack of security and understaffed

One might think that we were unlucky and that it was a one-off event, but my gut feeling says it could have been prevented if the management wouldn’t have prioritized cutting the costs instead of providing proper service. The hotel hosted guests attending a wedding in a venue nearby. Already beforehand I was given the impression that they are understaffed, as it could take up to 10 minutes for the front desk to answer my phone calls and no help was available to carry luggage from taxi to hotel room (it must have been a funny scene as I myself, well dressed for the dinner later the same evening, was shoving ten heavy suitcases on the trolley as my in-laws were checking in). Unfortunately I didn’t pay enough attention to my guests remarks about some of the rooms not having safety boxes (standard equipment in most hotels?). The unimaginable happened as my future grandfather in law was sitting in an almost empty lobby, when two men (homeless? street gangs?) entered, one of them turning his chair while the other snatched his handbag containing two sets of passports, large amount of cash and inherited jewels of immeasurable value – all caught on the hotel security camera and later on reviewed by the police. The poor man, with impaired vision, had thought that it was safer for him to have them next to him than to leave them in a closet or drawer in the hotel room. As it later turned out that thefts happen frequently in the Clarion lobby – just the week before there was an attempt that was successively prevented – I ask myself why it seems as if the hotel is cutting out on the necessities, such as making sure that the guests can be safe enough to have a cup of coffee in the lobby without being subject to theft or assault. Why give your international guests the impression that Sweden is a hostile, unsafe country with poor and cheap service? A note for future guests therefore is that by “safety boxes”, as a list of services on the hotel web site, is meant a guarantee of at least having a big room by the reception where you can leave your passport and the statement “The Clarion Hotel Sign offers rooms designed to be accessible to guests … with hearing and visual impairments” should be understood in a literal sense as the lobby and public areas are potentially hazardous! Having stated the above, it should be pointed out that the hotel staff were very kind in their attempts to lessen the damage and the grandparents were given a free stay until they managed to sort out their work with the embassies and rebook their tickets back home. The least that can be done to improve the safety is however to have a box in each room or someone guarding the entrance of the hotel…

Hi Thank you for taking the time to write about your experience. I'm truly sorry, we were unable to assist you with luggage upon your arrival. I'm afraid we don't have porter service at our hotel at all times, unless it has been pree arranged/ordered or if a guest asks for it upon arrival. As I understand from your review, you probably asked for help, if so we should of course always assist as soon as possible. I have forwarded your feedback regarding this to our front desk manager. Yes, it is correct we do not have safety boxes in all of our room types. For guests who would like to use a safety box but don't have one in the room, we offer safety boxes free of charge in the luggage room near the front desk. We are all very upset about what happened to your grandfather in law! If I may, I would like to know how he is doing now and if everything is ok? I hope the meeting you had with our General manager & Hotel manager made you feel listened to, and that you felt they did their utmost to do the best we could due to this traumatic experience. I believe there must have been a misunderstanding regarding this happening frequently in the lobby (maybe due to the language barrier). It has happened before, as it unfortunately sometimes do in all hotels, streets, airports, stores and so on. Thankfully, we are spared from this being a frequent thing happening at our hotel though. Our guests should of course never feel unsafe to have a cup of coffee in the lobby or have the impression of it being hazardous. We do indeed always have a security guard on duty at the hotel in the evenings, as many hotels in the city do. This is not due to the city being unsafe, Stockholm is one of the most safe capitals in the world. I'm glad that we could be of help to you and assist with contacting the authorities in a swift way and also to assist you with plane tickets This was indeed an extremely unfortunate event and we all wish we could have prevented it somehow. I can not even imagine the shock your grandfather in law must have experienced. If he or you would like to contact me, you are most welcome to e-mail me nadia.fagerdin@choice.se I truly hope you and all of your family is well and that the wedding was wonderful. Kind regards Nadia Fagerdin
