Clarion Hotel® Admiral

We originally planned to stay at the Clarion Admiral for 2 nights, but loved it so much that, after a short trip up north, we came back for 2 more nights! The young man at the front desk - I believe his name was Christopher - was very attentive and helpful in getting us the right room with a sitting area and view of the harbor. While he was especially fun to talk with, all the staff throughout the hotel seemed friendly and cheerful, and there was a feeling of relaxed elegance throughout the lobby/lounge/restaurant area. On our last evening we were heading through the restaurant out the harborfront doors for some moonlit pictures and hovmester Manu, not only brought us furs and pillows outside and turned on the heaters so we could have tea at the outdoor tables, but he also showed us pictures of the Northern lights over Bergen from his own phone! The view from the hotel is directly across from the iconic buildings of Bryggen…we walked over there several times during our stay. There is so much to see and do walking distance from the hotel; many boat/ferry options, shopping , including the Galleria (a nearby posh mall) and the fish market (fisketorget) with its attached restaurants. There are many restaurant choices nearby, but we started each day with the FANTASTIC breakfast included with our room. A few of our favorite items were the energy shots, pastries, extensive bread and cracker selections, smoked salmon, liver pâté, fresh melon slices, yogurts and add-ins, roasted potatoes, crispy bacon, egg casserole, sautéed mushrooms…and so much more, all fresh, all delicious, and of course coffee or tea, as well as juices. This hotel will always remain one of our favorite memories of our time in Bergen.

The hotel is in a great location, right on the water, close to the fish markets (a good thing in Norway) and walking distance to the old town of Bryggen which you can see across the water. The staff are lovely and very helpful, it is a busy hotel as people travelling on Hurtigruten ships stay here prior to or after their trip yet the still managed to get me into my room a bit early as I had been travelling for over 24 hours and was exhausted. My room was a single but still very comfortable and with a view which was a bonus. There are lots of places to see within walking distance which I highly recommend, just wander around and see what is there. The buffet breakfast is good but can be busy but worth it just for the views up to Mt Floyen.

As always Clarion Hotel Admiral, gives me good service, very nice member upgrade of the room and a lovely breakfast. The staff is very nice and look like they enjoy giving good service. This time i traveled with my dog, and the reception wished me a plessant stay for both me snd my dog. I will regimene this hotel. Close to parking garrage.

Stay away. I was informed that breakfast was from 7am which is late, but when i came it was from 0800, so i had to go to work without breakfast. They really should inform that breakfast was only available from 8. Cleaning of rooms i very poor especially toilet.

We are staying at Admiral & quite honestly it’s been a slightly disappointing experience. As others have mentioned this hotel does seem to cater for large cruise groups. There is no information pack in the room about the hotel facilities or Bergen & no phone so for every little thing you have to go downstairs & queue at reception. I had previously upgraded our room prior to arrival to water front but once we saw the size of the rooms I cancelled this as it’s really not worth the extra price. The positives - Excellent location right in central Bergen & easy walking distance to restaurants, shops & waterfront. Breakfast is very good with plenty to choose from. Comfortable beds & really nice bathroom & shower. The negatives- rooms are tiny & in need of refurbishment. Mismatch of furniture makes it look worse. Even the corridors are in need of attention & look half finished. The only heater is right by the window hidden by the curtain & seems to have very little temperature control. As mentioned earlier no information or phone in room means a long queue downstairs. There is no concierge to offer advice on trips , instead head to the Information Centre by the fish market where the staff are extremely helpful. Overall genuinely disappointed with the rooms & ambiance. It is my partners birthday whilst we are here & I wish we had chosen a different hotel where it could be more memorable.
