Danish design brands

Normann Copenhagen

Jan Andersen and Poul Madsen founded Normann Copenhagen in 1999 to inject some change into the industry. Their first product launched in 2002 and in 2005 they introduced furniture as a part of their offering. Today Normann Copenhagen is a world-renowned design brand delivering high end products that challenge even the most cutting edge Danish design.

Normann believes in originality and quality and exercises great care when deciding whom to collaborate with.

You can find Normann Copenhagen branded textiles, furniture and accessories in design stores across the city. Or pay a visit to their exclusive flagship store in Østerbro.

HAY CPH

HAY is a fairly young brand but with a tonne of attitude. Founded in 2002, HAY’s vision was to bring back the innovative and simple design from the 1960’s. They collaborate with both new and established international designers and to strive to keep their products sustainable, functional and affordable.

HAY products are widely available across the city!

Muuto

Muuto has an interesting name with an interesting story behind it. Muuto was derived from the Finnish word muutos which basically means change or new perspective. And that’s exactly what this brand is all about as they aim to showcase classic products with a modern twist.

You’ll find accessories, lighting and furniture for your home at muuto and luckily for you, they handpick their designers to ensure a one of a kind experience.

Want more? Be sure to check out up-and-coming design brands like Ferm Living and Bloomingville – all of which are widely available.

Illums Bolighus

Illums Bolighus was founded in 1925 and it’s been defending its position as one of the most popular design stores in Denmark and the Nordics ever since. Illums Bolighus is at the forefront of Scandinavian design and is the home of many well renowned designers. And while they stock products from a lot of Danish designers you’ll also find many internationally recognized ones. We love Royal CopenhagenEva SoloKay BojesenKählerKartell and Flos.

Stilleben

This shop is slightly different from the mentioned. Stilleben offers textiles, ceramics, cushions, trays, jewelry and mirrors and focuses on showcasing young talent within the design- and fashion industry.

They were opened in 2002 by Ditte Reckweg and Jelena Nordentoft who both graduated from the Danish School of Design with an aim of opening a store to promote new design talent from Denmark and abroad.

They also have their own product lines as well as collaborations with other Danish design brands such as Kähler. Make sure to drop by if you’re in the market for some young and edgy inspiration.

If these stores have left you wanting more then we also recommend visiting the Girlie Hurly in Vesterbro or Urban Living in the center of Copenhagen.
